One-Day Workshop on Thermal Medicine, Heat Shock Proteins and Cancer

Thursday, March 31, 2004
NIH Natcher Center
Bethesda, Maryland

The Society for Thermal Medicine is sponsoring a unique, 1-day educational event in cooperation with the National Institute of Health’s Conference facility that will highlight the exciting new developments linking research on heat and heat shock proteins with cancer therapy.

This special session, entitled "Thermal Medicine, Heat Shock Proteins and Cancer" is designed for academic/industry scientists, physicians, graduate students and fellows who desire an update of information on the science driving the current reemergence of excitement associated with the clinical promise of thermal medicine.

STM is pleased to have the leaders in the field participate in this workshop.  The complete listing of presenters is provided at:

STM Workshop Speakers Listing

They will present sessions whose topics will emphasize:

Heat shock proteins and thermal stress and their associations with cell biology, physiology, immunology and cancer therapy;

The design of effective methods to apply thermal stress;

Comparison of physiological and high temperature affects; and

A special session highlighting new developments in thermal ablation in the cancer clinic.

Attendees will come away with an excellent overview of the field of thermal medicine, especially the critical discoveries and paradigms that have emerged in the past two decades and most importantly, the current barriers that must be overcome to speed progress in this field.   Attendees will also come away with a better foundation that will facilitate critical assessment of presentations at the annual meeting of the Society for Thermal Medicine, which follows this special session.
